Tate St.Ives

We went to the Tate St.Ives on Tuesday. We found out all sorts of information like the listed below:
1) The Tate St.Ives are the only national museum in a rural context in the UK

2)Their definition of the Wider community they work with is the whole of Cornwall.

3)Most visitors go to Tate St.Ives in the spring and summer.

4) The department of for culture funds the Tate.

5) There are 4 Tates.

The storage site for Tate St.Ives are held in North London.

7) The Barbara hetworth museum was set up on 1979

8) The current Tate building was built in 1993

9) Patrick Heron made the stained glass window which is permanently exhibited in the Tate

10) There are 3 exhibitions held at the Tate every year

11) The Tate is shut 2 weeks between each exhibition to put all the new exhibition objects up. This is called the 'going dark' period.

12) the aim of Tate St.Ives is to bring international art to Cornwall.

13) The building was designed like it is to reflect on the town of st.Ives.

14) They create a new What's On Guide every exhibition they held.

15) They plan two years in advance for their exhibitions they hold.

16) There are 4 activities going on at the same time on Super Sundays.
I found it quite interesting. I think the woman did talk to long and I felt she didn't tell us the information we wanted to know. For example she didn't say much about what work is being exhibited or cultures of the work or the actual Tate Gallery itself.

Trengwainton Gardens

We are going on a trip to Trengwainton gardens which will inform us about the kind of work we could do for them. This trip could open up a wide range of projects and work experience opportunities. The sort of work you could do is make promotional materials for their family trail or their wet nose day on the 2nd of may. We could also use their location to make a short film their after Easter in many different types of genres or do some really good photography work on the views of St Michael's mount from there or the plants which would be quite enjoyable.

We went to Trengwainton gardens and unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't get the footage and photographs that we would have liked to get. We are hoping to go again soon in the summer so we can catch all the footage or photographs we need. It would have been nice to look round if wasn't raining but hopefully we should see the full potential of the garden next time.

We went for a second time and we got some better photographs to use for this project or work experience. We also took our posters back to them to get feedback but unfortunately they said they already had a layout that they said they were going to use for wet nose day. I think there are still work experience opportunities in the future which sound quite interesting.

This has been like a mini version of the project which we are going to do next which is called interact. This where you go out and find a local organisation to make either promotional materials or marketing materials for them.

We are now offered to work with them again like we did above but in more detail. We could promote all kinds of fun days and other community projects they might have. Also you could make these in any mediums really such as graphics, photography. The project is pretty open really. This would be really good. The negative side of working with them is that When we did this before they had very high expectations on what they wanted and we could not meet their standards.

Hayle Social Enterprise project

This is a project which consists of three people in Hayle who would like to build a pionerium. This is a museum which is about all the railways and trains that used to be used in Hayle and other places. This museum will also have a cinema complex in. They would like us to come up with a logo and other promotional materials for their pionerium. This is what we could make with them. The negative side of this project is that the brief isn't that open and they are quite specific on what they would like. The good side of working with Hayle Social Enterprise is that you would learn alot about this project and probably learn a long term role with them.
The ethos of the company is to preserve and promote the railway heritage in Hayle and other local areas which is to do with railway.

The tinners way project

This is a community arts project for the Tinners way. The Tinners way is a walk from St.Ives to Cape Cornwall. The people who run this project are two visual artists called Alessandra Ausenda and Lizzie Black. This project is very interactive as you go on walks with the public, go into schools and do creative sessions and other things. This project is funded by the heritage lottery funding who fund Community Arts projects. This is a project which you can make any medium of work such as photography, film, graphics ect.
The point of this project is to raise awareness of the Tinners way and mining and pottery.
They are also very helpful in this sense that they give you all sorts of research such as maps, guides, photographs and other objects. This is definately a positive thing. Negative aspects with this project are that it is quite an active project and hands on rather than sit back and make a film or some graphic design for them.

Proposal

Title: The Tre Project

Detailed Description: We are going to make a film on the idea of home. We are going to make a film about Biyan’s Step Dad’s opinion of home. We will try and relate the places of how they were then to now by using footage and quick photographs. We will collect some archive footage and film a new interview of Biyan’s dad perception of home and all his memories. This film will be a documentary. We are going to make our own music in logic pro. We will keep it to the style of the footage at that particular time of the footage that’s showing or the storyline. Most of the story will be a voice over by Biyan’s dad but there will be a few clips of the interview. We are going to get some archive footage of some streets in Cornwall according to peoples stories. If we cannot get archive footage we will film the current location and put a filter on it to make it look old and we will do the same effect on photographs that we take. We will film modern footage of the areas that we have of old footage and places that bring memories to people we gather stories from. We will gather stories of Cornwall from people by using an mp3 recorder. The film will allow an insight into how the culture and place has changed. We might use the effect of looking at an image in an old Cornish book then it transforms into footage. We might make a short narrative about the idea above with the drama students based on old story of Cornwall and adapt it to our view of home either through the area or the topic of that story.

Target Audience: Our target audience is probably aimed at 40 - 80 year olds as they love looking back to their younger years and remembering what a particular place was like when they were growing up compared to now. Also I think is suited at documentary lovers as this is going to be a documentary style.

We would like to make this film because it is all about Cornwall, which I love and it is a family relative of my friend. I think the mood and feelings expressed in this film will be a mixture depending on the story being told at the time. We have chosen to use the effects above because I think it portrays Cornwall and Graham’s Story very well. Also you are able to see and interpret these areas in all different ways. The footage and images portrayed in this way are presenting the old and archive feeling of the story in a realistic way. We want to achieve an interesting and different perspective of Cornwall and make people aware of issues and opinions that used to happen compared to now. We aim to finish this project by the end of term, which is the 9th July. This will be the film that we make and all the paperwork that we have to do. We have done all the research now so all we have to do is make the product and other evaluating and analysing work. Our team will be Biyan, Graham and me. There will be also some other people we could interview about their memories with her Graham. Biyan and I will be filming, editing and taking pictures and doing the paper work. Graham will be the person telling his story. The Archive footage we are going to use are the following: Marazion / long rock beach Zennon cliff path Morab road Queens street Penzance town We will also take recent footage/images on these following areas and other recent footage that Graham remembers in the footage/images. We chose these pieces of footage because this where Graham has the best memories. Also these are the places he’s going to talk to us about.
